Kakamega Principal Magistrate, Eric Malesi, while delivering the ruling over the incident said that the death of Mulanda should not be just another statistic on increased cases of police brutality in Kenya.
Four policemen in Kakamega have been charged with the murder of Raymond Mulanda. The four officers; PC Musa Juma, Senior Sergent Michael Cherugut, Francis Kaimeti, Duncan Wafula are currently locked up at the Kakamega Central Police Station.
Mulanda was killed on December 16th, 2019, after he was arrested from a bar by the four officers after the owner of the bar (Rosana) who is also said to be involved in Mulanda’s death, called them, the reason being that the deceased was causing a disturbance.

“Police officers are humans just like the rest of us. How they turn brutal after attending Kiganjo Police Training College and wearing a uniform is a question that needs to be discussed,” he said.
Before meeting his death, the deceased was taken away in a police vehicle, when on the way the officers are said to have dropped him from the vehicle but passers-by raised an alarm, which forced the officers to pick the unconscious man and drive off.
