KEY TAKEAWAYS

TSC advertised 2,945 vacancies to replace teachers who exited service through natural attrition of which 2,053 posts were for primary schools and 892 posts for secondary schools.

The Teacher Service Commission has issued a clarification on the replacement of primary school teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.

According to the statement released on Wednesday, January 26, the commission clarified the selection of primary school teachers to fill the vacancies advertised.

The Dr. Nancy Macharia-led agency stated that teachers will be selected from a list of past recruitment processes conducted in July 2021.

“In the January 2022 advertisement on natural attrition, primary school teachers will be selected from the merit list compiled during the recruitment of additional teachers-July 2021,” read the statement in part

On January 19th, TSC advertised 2,945 vacancies to replace teachers who exited service through natural attrition of which 2,053 posts were for primary schools and 892 posts for secondary schools.

However, there was confusion among primary school teachers applying for the jobs after the online application portal failed to show applications for primary school teachers.

The online system only allowed secondary school teachers to apply for the advertised vacancies. The commission has now come out to direct the teachers affected on what to do.

In the announcement today TSC says primary school teachers will not apply for the replacement vacancies through the online platform but will be selected from the merit list compiled during the recruitment of additional teachers in July 2021.

In July 2021, TSC announced 9,000 vacancies which attracted 350,000 applicants who were interviewed for a week by interview panels spread across the county. The commission later announced selected candidates in September.

Primary school teachers will be selected from the list of the shortlisted candidates who were not picked. However, the recruitment of secondary school teachers will go on as scheduled.

TSC holds recruitment of teachers regularly to replace primary and secondary teachers who leave the service for various reasons. In some incidences, most teachers have fallen victim to schemes by conmen, who ‘guarantee’ them jobs.
