You Can Now Know Your Political Party Membership Status Through USSD

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has made it possible for citizens to check their political party membership status. It can be done by sending an SMS to a code or by visiting ORPP’s website.

Kenyans will now join, leave and check their membership status in a political party following the new USSD code by the Office of Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP). The code is *509#.

The USSD Code*509# now allows one to register or even to resign as a member and join any other different political party.

When one dials the code, they will be required to input their details; ID number, and first name. They will then get approved after verification. After that, they will be able to register, resign or even check your status as far as the political party is concerned.

Political formations in any given country are legal entities with their rights and responsibilities. On this account, each establishment has its criteria and latitude in deciding what one needs to satisfy to become a delegate. The eligibility for membership is stipulated in the political party’s constitution.

Many Kenyans have found themselves registered as members of different political parties without their consent. In a move to have Kenyans as their members, political parties have been using unscrupulous ways to register Kenyans including buying data.

Everyone who needs to participate in the nomination process and have to be registered in his or her respective political party he or she belongs to.

IPPMS has been integrated within the E-citizen platform and it is accessed free of charge according to the Registrar of political parties and among other things meant to manage and maintain the database for political parties’ records

According to ICT statistics, almost 100 percent of Kenyans have access to mobile phones and can therefore access the services.
