“What we have in Kenya are licensing entities that never talk to each other. Regulation is good but when it used to kill and frustrate businesses, it loses meaning,” said the Chair of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Mr. Mucai Kunyiha.

Study shows that at least 450,000 SMEs shut down annually in Kenya. This translates to at least 30,000 leaving the business space monthly and at least 1,000 die annually. The massive closure has been blamed on the high cost of doing business in Kenya.

Currently, it is difficult to set up and run a business in Kenya. The government has introduced so many taxes and regulations that have been scaring away potential investors. At the same time, there is massive corruption within and without government.
