Holiday After Holiday: Kenyans Can’t Wait for Those Days Off Work Again

holiday off work

Kenyans have had quite 2022 already. It’s been a party after party beginning with three National holidays so far and three more rushing in quickly.

The fact is that we all love holidays. It doesn’t have to be a weekend or half a day. And nothing beats a day off work when you have permission from the National government. And a quick 6 public holidays is such a welcome in just four months.

We began the holiday mood on New Year’s eve when the country welcomed the eagerly awaited year, 2022.

As the norm, some went to church and stayed there until midnight to see the New Year giving thanks to God. While others went out dancing with friends. Fireworks were set off at midnight to show it had just begun.

Families prepared food, invited visitors over, and enjoyed singing, dancing, and other forms of entertainment together with the belief that if you are good at the beginning of the year, you will be successful for the rest of it.

Well, that was just the start of it all. After almost three months down the line, Kenyans were set for another big weekend from 15 April to 18 April 2022 to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Commonly known as Good Friday and Easter Monday, the country was in a total spiritual mood as various churches imitated how the human race had tortured and killed the savior and how He eventually defeated death to arise on the third day.

Again, it was a time to come together as a family. A time for forgiveness, spreading love, care, and compassion for the less fortunate in society.

A week later, the President announced that there would be another public holiday on Friday, 29 April 2022, to honor the Late former Third President of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki.

Even though the country is mourning, another almost one week’s break off work is not that bad for the economically infringed Kenyans.

Immediately after sending off our former third president is another off workday for laborers on Monday 1 May 2022.

Well known as Labor Day, the holiday is specifically meant to celebrate the contribution of Kenya’s laboring class to its culture and economy.

The President will give a speech, and labor union leaders will also get a chance to be heard. There will be an official annual theme that varies year by year, but the need for salaries to keep pace with inflation, for health and safety improvements at workplaces, and for workers’ constitutional rights to be respected always seem to be a part of the speeches.

Not yet the end. Another big celebration is coming ahead for Our Muslim brothers and sisters, who will be celebrating the end of fasting from the evening of Monday, 2 May, till the end of the evening of Tuesday, 3 May. It’s a holiday.

Yes, it’s a lineup of holidays, and Kenyans can’t wait.
