KNEC New Cost Of Marking KCSE Per Script Revealed For Contracted Teachers

The process of marking the Kenya national examinations for 2021/2022 (KCSE) is expected to start on Monday 4th April 2022, following the end of the form Four KCSE examinations on Friday.

From 14th March 2022, all examiners received invitations from the Kenya national examinations council through official letters, and with them were the respective marking centers as per the examiner’s subject of specialization data contained in the KNEC examiners portal.

During Marking for the 2020 KCSE examinations, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) came up with new demands for the exam agency to raise marking fees for each script by at least 50 shillings basing their argument on harsh economic times in the country.

There was a need for papers like Chemistry Paper 1, English Paper 1, and mathematics each to be paid at not less than 100 shillings, according to KUPPET unions. The new state’s national marking for each KNEC Examination paper attracts between 51 shillings to 58 shillings.

The union leaders in KUPPET also wanted the National Examination Council to increase invigilators’ and supervisors’ allowances by 100 percent, saying the present fee has been fixed for a long time and cannot stand the taste of time.

KUPPET also suggested that school heads, commonly known as center managers allowance and Invigilators and supervisors, be increased to a reasonable percentage. All examiners are looking forward to seeing whether KNEC will consider their request after the 2021 KCSE examinations process.

According to Payment details released by the Council, Primary school heads who act as Centre Managers for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, exams pocket a daily subsistence allowance of 500 shillings; for four days (including rehearsal day).

On the other hand, secondary school principals earn a daily allowance of 500 shillings for 18 days. The highest-paid Supervisor walks away with a total of 12,510 shillings, while the highest-paid invigilator gets 9860 shillings

The examiner does not pay deputy headteachers despite being present at the school present during the examination period as assistant Centre Managers

KNEC also does not include payment of teachers handling science subjects who prepare and administer practicals during the KCSE examinations. KNEC data, however, shows a total of 2,056,719 were registered for the tests.
