Term One Closing Dates Extended; Here’s the Final Revised School Calendar

Primary and secondary schools are expected to close for the first term holiday on July 2 2022, and students will stay home for one week up to July 10, 2022.

All schools reopened for the first term of the 2022 school year on May 29. The new situation is unlike the previous years when schools were reopened for the first term every January of the new year. Schools would closed for up to one month, term one holiday in 2022 has been that short.

The second term will begin on July 11, 2022, until September 16, while the third term will run from September 26, 2022, to November 25.

The above adjustments are meant to cater to the lost time during the Covid 19 pandemic when the school closed down to curb the spread of the pandemic.

According to the ministry of education, by January 2023, the education calendar will resume normalcy.

A timetable released by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) indicates that the pioneer grade 6 pupils will sit for their KPSEA under the Competency-Based Curriculum beginning November 28 2022.

The grade pupils will be replacing the current class eight candidates as they transition to the secondary level.

The learners will then proceed to junior secondary in January at approximately age 12 and exit to grade 9 at about 14 years.

After this, they will join senior secondary for grades 10, 11, and 12 education

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said that the first class of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) would continue in primary schools even after completing the national exam that will qualify them for a junior secondary school.
