Absa Bank Kenya Donates Official Travelling Kit to Team Kenya

Absa Bank Kenya, the official private sector sponsor for Team Kenya, has delivered the official traveling kit to the national team ahead of the World Athletics Championships that kick off in Oregon, the USA on Friday.

The traveling contingent of 46 athletes will compete in both track and field events at Eugene, Oregon’s famous Hayward Field. Team Kenya’s notable names include 5000m specialist Margaret Chelimo, former 400m silver medalist Moitalel Mpoke, and Africa’s fastest man, sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala.

Speaking during the handover, Absa Bank Kenya Marketing Manager, Peter Waweru, commended the team for their commitment and preparation for the upcoming games saying he was optimistic about Kenya’s performance in the Championships.

“We applaud Team Kenya for their meticulous preparations both in the National Trials as well as camp training. We expect an impressive showing in Oregon,” Waweru said.

He also applauded the work done by Athletics Kenya (AK) and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) to create a conducive environment for athletes to step up their preparations for the different events.

On his part, World Athletics Team Manager, Kiprono Bunei, who was present during the handover ceremony, thanked Absa for the kits and expressed optimism about Team Kenya’s performance at the World Championships games.

He said, “We have a very strong team in both the middle and long-distance running which gives us an advantage. We hope for a very strong performance.”

The kit handover is part of the overall benefits of a KES 9 million sponsorship by Absa for the just-ended National Trials which helped to select teams for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK, and the World Under 20 Championships in Bali, Indonesia.

In 2022, the Bank has committed a capital investment of Kshs. 2 billion in over 70 projects that are designed to increase operational efficiency and improve customer experience.
