KEY TAKEAWAYS

Since it is every woman’s right to access quality pads, KEBS has introduced new standards for homemade sanitary towels through Do-It-Yourself (DIY) standards to promote menstrual hygiene.

The Kenya Bureau of Statistics (KEBS) has issued new guidelines concerning some common household products to improve the safety of Kenyans.

The specific areas targeted by the Bureau include biogas, greenhouse gases, Bamboo, and ceramic tiles.

To improve the quality of tiles, KEBS has introduced moisture expansion standards – this will enable the tiles to expand when subjected to heat such as boiling water.

“When renovating or building your home, you should consider the material used – whether it’s your bathroom, kitchen, or other living space. Quality tiles that measure to proper standards are a must for you and your family to remain safe and improve the aesthetic quality of your house,” Njiraini stated.

Previous research shows that only 35 per cent of women can access quality sanitary pads across Kenya.

Since it is every woman’s right to access quality pads, KEBS has introduced new standards for homemade sanitary towels through Do-It-Yourself (DIY) standards to promote menstrual hygiene.

Meanwhile, new standards for biogas are in place by KEBS, in a move to push more Kenyans to use it as an alternative energy source.

Now more than ever, KEBS believes online learning is an excellent way to go, especially after the global pandemic’s effects.

For this reason, KEBS, through the Kenya standard, is set to provide fixed structures and communication protocols for distant-learning objectives.

This enables interoperability between applications by providing uniform communication guidelines used throughout learning objects’ design, development, and delivery.

“When these standards are incorporated into off-the-shelf products, developers can base their purchasing decisions on quality rather than compatibility,” Njiraini said.
