Weekly Equity Turnover Up 97.7%, Bond Up 44.2%

KEY POINTS

Weekly bond turnover increased by 44.2 percent w-o-w to close at USD 158.91 MN (KES 18.73 BN). FTSE Bond Index shed 0.6 percent w-o-w to close at 94.70.

The weekly equity turnover rose by 97.7 percent w-o-w to close at USD 19.41 million (2.29 billion shillings). NSE 20 and NASI gained 3.1 percent and 6.6 percent w-o-w to close at 1,622.85 and 124.94 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 41.4 percent of total market purchases and 85.8 percent of total market sales.

Fixed Income

Weekly bond turnover increased by 44.2 percent w-o-w to close at USD 158.91 MN (KES 18.73 BN). FTSE Bond Index shed 0.6 percent w-o-w to close at 94.70.

The 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day t-bill yields edged up by 8 bps, 3 bps, and 1 bp w-o-w to close at 8.097, 9.1960, and 9.9850 percent respectively.

Macro Metrics

The Kenyan shilling weakened by 0.2 percent w-o-w to close at 117.87 against the US Dollar (-4.2 percent year-to-date).

FX Reserve: Import cover decreased by 0.6% w-o-w to close at 4.74 months (-12.1% year-to-date).
