Why Are Employees Running Away From Your Company?

Every employee’s dream is to work in an environment where they are comfortable. At the same time, every entrepreneur’s dream is to hire the right people to run various tasks in their organizations. This is because hiring the wrong people will potentially have more negative impacts on your organization.
People join and leave companies. They may decide to leave the organization voluntarily or involuntarily. Involuntary employee turnover applies when an employee has been terminated from a certain organization due to poor performance or behavior issues or simply workforce reduction.
People leave organizations for various reasons. some may leave due to unavoidable circumstances which is okay. If you find out that your employees are leaving your organization due to unhappiness, or you are constantly terminating underperforming employees then you have a problem.
Here are some common causes of employee turnover.
Poor Hiring Strategy
Hiring employees that don’t match your company’s values and culture may not end well. Even if you are desperate to fill that position, take your time to find a qualified individual to fill it. This will be good for you as an entrepreneur, your company, as well as the employee.
If you don’t hire qualified personnel then you will find yourself constantly firing your workers. An incompatible employee may not be contented with their new position and may decide to just leave.
Being Overworked
Too much work and stress may force an employee to leave and find work elsewhere. Overworked employees are prone to illness, absenteeism, and stress. Imagine getting to work every day and instead of being happy you are just stressed? The next thing you would just think of is leaving.
Nobody will perform their best when they are unhappy. This will not only affect the employee but also the organization. This is because employees will just be rushing to ensure their tasks are met without focusing on the quality.
A bad Boss
There is a common phrase that states that “people don’t quit their jobs, they quit bad bosses”. A bad boss is one of the common causes of employee turnover. If your organization’s working environment is peaceful, the most likely culprit is an ineffective, incompetent, or just plain evil boss.
Employees who disagree with their bosses’ ideas are likely to lose their jobs.
Lack of feedback and Recognition
Feedback is the first step to ensuring your employees succeed. If an employee is struggling, your honest feedback could be helpful and may keep them going. Ignoring the opportunity for feedback or giving unhelpful feedback may make your employees disheartened and they may just give up.
Toxic Culture
This is another common cause of employee turnover. If an organization exhibits some toxic signs such as sabotaging morale, scaring away new talents, or even driving away its best people, then the employees may not find it safe. Toxic work culture will lead to conflicts, disengaged workers, and unmotivated employees.
An organization may have the best workers but due to its nature, these employees may just run away to seek better places where they feel motivated.
Poor Compensation
Many employees will choose to work where they are paid better and on time. If you are finding it difficult to compensate your employees better or in time, then you have a problem. Entrepreneurs should understand that paying their staff is a tangible way to show they value their contributions. Moreover, being paid on time motivates employees to give their best. This also makes it difficult for a competitor looking to poach top performers to lure them away with purely financial incentives.
Transfers & promotions
Transfers and promotions are cause for celebration. No employee wants to stay in the same company forever. Different working environments are a catalyst for getting new skills. Getting a higher position in another organization will push an employee to leave their current positions.
If your organization is experiencing a high employee turnover, then it’s highly likely you are guilty of one or more of the above. Efforts to change always begin with good intentions for both your company and the workforce.
Sexual harassment
There are some companies where women are never safe. They get harassed sexually left, right and center. They are seen as tools of biological entertainment other than people who can work and move up the ladder like other people.
