Governor Elections For Kakamega And Mombasa Suspended

BY Juma · August 8, 2022 06:08 pm

Residents of Kakamega and Mombasa will not be able to elect their governors on Tuesday after IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati suspended voting for that position in those two counties. Chebukati says there was a mix-up in ballot papers.

Chebukati said this followed the realization that the details and images of the candidates were wrong. Others affected for the same reason are the Pokot South and Kacheliba constituency elections.

“Ballot papers for Mombasa governor position have wrong gubernatorial candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them,” Chebukati said.

“Ballot papers for Kacheliba constituency have the wrong member of National Assembly candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them,” he added.

He spoke on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya during a press briefing ahead of Tuesday’s elections.
