A liter of Fresh Fri cooking oil is selling for 436 shillings at Naivas and Cleanshelf, while 359 shillings at Carrefour. A 5 liter of the same brand is 1,993 shillings at Carrefour while 1,699 shillings at Naivas and Cleanshelf supermarkets.
A 2kg bag of Exe, Ajab, and Pembe wheat flour at Naivas is currently retailing at 195 shillings, 205 shillings, and 193 shillings, respectively.
The same commodities are going for 200 shillings (Exe), 204 shillings (Ajab), and 197 shillings (Pembe). At Clean shelf, the Ajab brand goes for 204 shillings, Pembe for 198 shillings, and Ex for 200 shillings.
A 10Kg bag of Soko maize Flour is selling for 1,067 while the 2kg ad 1kg packets are retailing at 211 ad 106 shillings respectively at CleaShelf supermarket.
At Carrefour, a 2kg Packet of Soko and Pembe Maize flour is retailing at 209 shillings ad 195 shillings respectively. The same quantity of Jogoo brand is selling for 195 shillings.
A tray carrying 12 eggs goes for 520 shillings at Naivas, 481 shillings at Carrefour, and 450 shillings at Cleanshelf.
A four-pack of Toilex, Velvex, and Sifa tissue paper rolls sell for 160, 223, and 162 shillings at Carrefour. The prices set at Naivas Supermarket for the same products are 148 shillings for Toilex and 204 for Velvex.

Even though most farmers across regions such as Western, South Rift and Nyanza have harvested produce, the cost of maize is still above the roof for most consumers.
Before the harvests, maize costs between 5,800 to 6000 shillings per 90kg bag. With just a slight reduction, maize prices have now declined from 6,000 to Sh5,600 shillings in Eldoret. The price of the product has reduced from 5,900 to 5,400 shillings in Kisumu and 5,600 down from 5,900 shillings in Nakuru.
Kenyans have attributed the current situation to the high taxes that they pay, high cost of energy, fuel as well as high cost of production, and inputs leading to higher cost of output.
Even as politics continue to take center stage in the country, Kenyans are hopeful that whoever will take the top seat will reduce the cost of basic commodities and thus ease the cost of living.
