Westlands Has Chosen To Retain Tim With 58,000 Votes

Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has retained his seat after garnering 58,408 votes beating his closest rival Nelson Havi who managed 19,000 votes.

Tears of joy engulfed the city Constituency on Friday after IEBC officially declared him the winner with thousands breaking into song and dance as they celebrated the win.

Thousands of his supporters had thronged and camped at the KTTC grounds waiting for the official declaration by IEBC, days after it was clear he had won.

According to the MP-elect, the delay was occasioned by an overwhelmed IEBC staff as they had to deal with a lot of work.

He said that they had been overstretched and piling more pressure on them was adding to their woes and said that as MPs, they will have to look for ways how to manage the elections without too much pressure on the IEBC staff.

“We have six elections in one day. We have the same staff that has been working for the last six days. In the future, we should look at splitting these elections. Those people are actually overstretched,” he said ahead of the announcement.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Wanyonyi acknowledged the support from his supporters and promised that he will continue delivering unrivaled leadership which has been his practice.

“I want to tell you that I will diligently work for you in these five years you have given me to be your MP again,” he said amid cheers from the supporters.

His closest rival, former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi had conceded defeat days ago but the IEBC was yet to make the announcement official.

Mr. Havi had hoped to have an easy ride to Parliament after Mr. Wanyonyi declared his bid for Nairobi Governor leaving the Westlands seat up for grabs but his chances wafted into thin air when the incumbent dropped his gubernatorial bid and decided to defend his seat.

Mr. Wanyonyi has vowed to bounce back in the gubernatorial race in the next elections, exuding confidence he will emerge the winner.

“Once I finish this new five-year term, I want you to allow me to go back and vie for the seat of Governor of Nairobi,” he said.

His ‘Si Mimi Ni Sisi’ call had settled well and resonated with city residents who felt cheated when Azimio Coalition decided to hand the Gubernatorial ticket to Jubilee’s Polycarp Igathe.

This is the third term that Mr. Wanyonyi will be representing Westlands people in the National Assembly.
