The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Wednesday, October 5, feted 33 teachers for their exemplary role in ensuring quality education within the country during the World Teachers Day celebrations.
TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia revealed at the Kenya School of Government- Lower Kabete that 264 teachers would be honored for defying the odds in order to push for effective and quality education.
Furthermore, a group of teachers would be recognized for receiving national honors in the previous two years, some of whom were awarded in 2022.
These include Peter Tabichi who won the outstanding award in Commonwealth 2022, Joel Shunza Gitali who scooped the Anti-tobacco award from the World Health Organization (WHO), and Gerald Mutosi who captured the outstanding sculpture award.
“The criteria of identifying the teachers have been in adherence to the TSC performance recognition, reward, and sanction policy framework. It stresses meritocracy and detailed due diligence in recognizing the staff which was done by the committee,” Macharia stated.
During the meeting, TSC chair, Jamleck Muturi acknowledged the pivotal role of teachers in building the nation and preparing the leaders of tomorrow despite encountering numerous challenges.
“The Commission has been engaging with teachers during stakeholder forums. The aim is to get the true feeling of the environment in which our teachers work from. We note that our teachers are doing great work,” he stated.
