TSC To Deploy 6,000 P1 Teachers To JSS, New Guidelines On How To Apply

KEY POINTS
TSC suspended automatic promotions on January 9, 2014, because they were financially unsustainable due to the growing number of teachers with graduate degrees.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
TSC has been urged by KNUT to permit primary school teachers with a secondary option degree but a C plain on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to instruct in junior secondary.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) intends to send 6,000 P1 teachers to teach in junior secondary schools starting in January 2023, suggesting that the meeting between representatives of the Teachers Union and the TSC was productive.
The above comes after Teachers Union officials meet to discuss the issue. The TSC is currently in talks with the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), which is represented by Colins Oyuu, the union’s secretary-general.
According to TSC, the junior secondary school will soon be implemented, therefore primary school teachers will need to transfer to the junior secondary school.
Due to the implementation of a competency-based curriculum, Dr. Nancy Macharia, CEO of the TSC, has stated that primary school teachers will need to be deployed in junior secondary schools.
In order to accomplish the whole shift of kids, Dr. Macharia also said that at least 6,000 primary school instructors will be dispatched in the first few months of 2019. Another group will be sent to primary schools after CBC is fully operating in June of the following year.
Teachers with TSC certification are expected to have the qualifications necessary for placement in secondary schools.

According to Macharia, TSC suspended automatic promotions on January 9, 2014, because they were financially unsustainable due to the growing number of teachers with graduate degrees.
The promotion and deployment of educators with diplomas, postgraduate degrees, and degrees from a variety of accredited educational institutions were sought by Members of Parliament (MPs), but not by students who received a mean KCSE grade of C (simple) or lower.
Following July, TSC’s new promotion strategy would only consider PTE teachers who received C+(plus) on the KCSE. Individuals interested in applying should visit the Teachers Service Commission’s online portal (TSC Online).
