KEY POINTS

Some people thrive on the routine of their job – performing the same tasks day after day. As an entrepreneur, you can bet that each day will be filled with new opportunities to challenge yourself, be creative, and learn something new.

Starting a business can be a life-changing experience. It can also seem like a scary one if you’ve never done it before. Deciding to start your own business is a leap of faith. It requires pushing out of your comfort zone and trying something new.

Some people are destined to be entrepreneurs. From the time they get through school, or maybe even before that, they’re hungry to start a business and lead it to success, and they’ll stop at nothing to make that dream a reality.

For others, starting a business is a scary, intimidating notion. There are too many unknowns to take the plunge. But if you’re considering becoming an entrepreneur, don’t forget all the benefits that go along with it:

Some people know from an early age they were meant to own their own business. Others find themselves starting a business due to life changes (parenthood, retirement, losing a job, etc.). Others may be employed, but are wondering whether the role of business owner/entrepreneur is right for them.

  1. Each day at the office will be motivating

When you’re working for someone else, it can be tough to find the motivation to do the best possible work. No matter how much work you put in, the owners of the company will get the ultimate rewards. When you’re your own boss, you’ll find motivation at work every day. Following your dreams is exciting, and you’re in control of your own success.

  1. Work From Anywhere

You can run your business from your laptop during a flight to an exotic destination. Or at a coffee shop, library, coworking space, home, and basically any other place with a Wi-Fi connection. Let’s be honest, nobody wants to work in the same boring place all the time. So, if you’re looking for the freedom to work anywhere, you can add this to your list of reasons to start a business.

  1. Be your own boss

Instead of bashing your head against a wall every time your boss makes a mistake, be the one making decisions, and hold yourself accountable to them. Of course, it’s human nature to want to avoid risks.

  1. You can achieve financial independence

Unless you’re on commission, there’s likely a cap to your full-time income. You’re given a salary, and the only way to get beyond that is maybe with an end-of-year bonus. When you start your own business, you get to decide how much money you make.

  1. You’ll be following your passions

Do what you really want to do. Pursue something that makes you happy or something you care about. There’s no wrong passion. Starting your own business lets you create fulfillment rather than find it.

  1. You can pursue social justice or support non-profits

One of the most fulfilling parts of becoming an entrepreneur is setting up your company for social gain. You can opt to support non-profits, charities, or community efforts with your profits. Or you can set up your business to solve a problem in your community or in the world at large, whatever your passion may be

  1. You can control your lifestyle and your schedule

Perhaps you’ve spent years in the corporate world and you feel ready to turn over a new leaf after years of reporting to a superior. Starting your own business can give you a more flexible lifestyle and schedule so you don’t feel like you’re running in circles on that corporate hamster wheel.

  1. Learn to fail and learn from your failures

Some companies fail because they make a poor product, and others because their product is mistimed. Most companies fold because of a lack of market need for their product or service or because they run out of capital.

  1. You Choose the People You Work With

When you work for someone else, you rarely get to choose whom you work with. If you don’t like your co-workers, you’d better start sending our resumes. That’s not the case when you own your own business, since you get to make the decisions about whom to hire (and fire).

  1. You Can Challenge Yourself

Some people thrive on the routine of their job – performing the same tasks day after day. As an entrepreneur, you can bet that each day will be filled with new opportunities to challenge yourself, be creative, and learn something new.

  1. You Can Give Back to Your Community

Many entrepreneurs love the idea that in building their business, they can give back to the community or communities they operate in the form of the products and services they offer, by donating to charities and especially the ability to create jobs, which is particularly important these days

  1. You Feel Pride in Building Something of Your Own

One of the biggest differences in owning your own company as opposed to working for someone else is the sense of pride you establish in building something of your own.
