Kenya Railways Announces Resumption Of Suspended Train Services

The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) announced that it would be resuming services for the suspended Kisumu- Nakuru train.

According to their notice, Kenya Railways stated that the train services would resume their operations on Friday, May 12, allowing passengers to travel from Nairobi to Kisumu and back. The Corporation Apologises for the inconvenience caused, they noted that it had not changed the train’s schedule.

“The Kisumu safari train services will therefore resume on Friday, May 12, 2023. The train will run as per the normal schedule, departing Nairobi Central Station on Friday at 6:30 PM and returning on Sunday at 6:30 PM,” the notice read in part.

Additionally, Kenya Railways explained that part of the railway track that had earlier been damaged had been fixed and was ready for use.

“We wish to notify our esteemed customers that the parts of our MGR track, between Nakuru and Kisumu affected by heavy rains have been restored. We further wish to assure the public that the safety of our passengers will always remain paramount to us,” added Kenya Railways.

Kenya Railways Corporation suspended its commuter train services on May 3^rd stating that the commuter train services were suspended as a result of unavoidable circumstances.

However, the Madaraka Express link trains, which operate between the Nairobi Central Station at CBD and the Nairobi terminus in Syokimau remained in operation.

“We do sincerely apologize to our esteemed customers for any inconvenience caused,” KRC said in the statement.

After its departure from the Nairobi station, the train is scheduled to return every Sunday departing the Kisumu Railway station at 6:30 PM to arrive in Nairobi at 06:35 AM.

The Kisumu safari train makes the trip from Nairobi to Kisumu every Friday with stopovers in Naivasha, Nakuru, Njoro, Molo, Elburgon, Fort Ternan, Londiani, Muhoroni, Miwani, Chemelil, Kibigori, and Kibos stations to drop and pick passengers.
