MRM Foundation Donates 400 Kiswahili Books

Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM), a leading manufacturer of building solutions and a member of the Safal Group today through its Foundation, the Safal MRM Foundation, donated 400 Kiswahili books to Nairobi City County’s Skills, Talent, and Care Sector – Library Section.

The regional initiative aims to promote the use and appreciation of the Kiswahili language among Kenyans and encourage a stronger cultural connection with the linguistic heritage of Kenya.

Kiswahili, as one of the official languages of Kenya, plays a vital role in fostering unity and communication among diverse communities in East Africa. By donating these books, the Foundation aims to support the development of literacy skills, inspire a love for reading, and create a deeper understanding of the language’s cultural significance.

The donation comprises of winning books of the Safal Cornell Kiswahili Prize for African Literature. The Prize founded in 2014, seeks to recognize and promote reading and writing in Kiswahili. This year, the Award Ceremony will be held in Nairobi. These resources will be made available to the public at the library, ensuring easy access for individuals of all ages who wish to enhance their Kiswahili language skills or explore Kiswahili literature and culture.

In addition to the donation, the Foundation plans to collaborate with Nairobi City County’s Skills, Talent, and Care Sector – Library Section in organizing workshops and events that promote the use of the Kiswahili language.

“We are delighted to contribute to the promotion of the Kiswahili language and literature in Nairobi,” said Julius Ochieng, HR Manager, MRM.  “By donating these books, we hope to empower individuals with the tools and knowledge to appreciate the beauty and significance of Kiswahili. We believe that a strong grasp of our national language enhances cultural identity, fosters inclusive communities, and contributes to the overall development of our society.”

The donation is part of MRM’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts to support the communities in which it operates and make a positive impact on society.
