According to research carried out by Insider, published by Yahoo Finance, Kenya is among the top unsafe Country to live in. The Country has been ranked among the top 30 dangerous countries in the world in 2023.
Kenya was ranked 25th position globally, two places below South Sudan, which has been embroiled in a civil war for years.
Topping the list of the 30 most dangerous countries in the world is Nigeria, even though it isn’t even in the top 5 rankings of any separate criterion, but ranks relatively highly in all of them
The research noted that the compilation involved ranking each country based on their score in the latest Global Peace Index, the Global Terrorism Index, and the average homicide rate.

In many of the most dangerous countries in the world, gangs, mafia, crime bosses and cartels exist because they can earn more money in a month than the average person can in a lifetime and are willing to shed blood and engage in violence for the promise of money
As indicated by Insider, Kenya had a high terrorism index ranking of 20 and a global peace index ranking of 34. Kenya boasted a lower per capita homicide rate compared to the majority of countries within the top 30, with a ranking of 117.
“Terrorist deaths because of attacks by Al-Shabaab increased in Kenya, even though most attacks were in Somalia,” the report observes.
Police officers demanding bribe on non-existing charges was mentioned as another contributor that has Kenya ranking so high on the most dangerous places to live.
To determine the most dangerous countries in the world in 2023, Insider used multiple sources to come up with realistic rankings and take into account any biases that a single source might have. They initially considered the ranking of each country based on their score in the latest Global Peace Index (the higher the score, the higher the ranking for their calculation) and the Global Terrorism Index.
