Nairobians Invited To Taste And Sample Great Wine Flavours

Nairobi will host the third edition of the Wine Fair, an annual event that brings together wine enthusiasts, wine importers, and producers, to interact and share culinary experiences and network.

The third edition of the Wine Fair will take place on Saturday September 2nd 2023 at the Trademark Hotel, Village Market and the theme for this year is “A Trip Around the World” which is a reflection of the expanded selections that will be on offer.

Vino Events East Africa, the event organisers, say that the generous diversity in wine selections this year is a response to learnings from the first edition, held in 2022, where there emerged a demand for wines from less prominent wine-producing regions, in addition to the classic offerings from Spain, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, France, and the USA.

“There is a demand for a wide variety of wines which reflects the growing wine-drinking culture in Kenya and the wider East Africa region.  This is why we decided to include wines from other markets including Moldova, Serbia, and Tanzania. The Wine Fair will not only enable enthusiasts to sample a wide variety but also offer a meeting point for exchanging ideas and business networking,” said Vino Events East Africa co-founder Judy Ngene.

Data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC)  shows that in 2021, Kenya imported wine worth $22.6 Million mainly from South Africa, France, Italy, and Chile. At the same time, Kenya exported wine worth $709,000 to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa, Burundi, Uganda, and Rwanda.

The Wine Fair will also act as a support mechanism for Team Wine Kenya, a team of female sommeliers that are expected to compete in the World Blind Tasting Championship in Paris in September.
