The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has announced another round of promotions for over 36,000 teachers. Last week, the commission promoted 14,000 teachers.

According to TSC, the teachers will be promoted across nine grades, as the government seeks to quell the disquiet over the stagnation of teachers.

On 23rd August, speaking during the Kenya Music Festival Winner’s State, president William Ruto said TSC  will promote 5,000 teachers directly and 36,000 teachers indirectly. These teachers are expected to get new pay and benefits.

“We have worked with the TSC so that we can incentivize our teachers to bring out their best by making sure that teachers who do well will be promoted. This year, we have provided for the promotion of 5,000 teachers directly, and 36,000 teachers will be promoted indirectly.” He said.

The promotions of teachers will be spread across primary and secondary schools as well as teachers’ training colleges. TSC said that the senior master position will have 12,716 positions for promotions, while some 10,819 teachers will be elevated to the position of senior teachers in regular primary schools.

The commission added that 700 slots have been left for the position of senior teacher in special needs schools, and 216 openings for the Grade C4 position of senior lecturer in teachers’ training colleges. TSC also advertised 108 positions for senior principals and 34 positions for chief principals.

Those interested are expected to apply for the positions by the 8th of September through the TSC portal.

According to the president, the government has allocated Sh1 billion to TSC to facilitate this promotion.

In addition, the president recommended that the Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu promote teachers who trained those students who participated in the Kenya Music Festival Winner’s State.

“Teachers who have done this phenomenal job by training these young people, writing the scripts, and doing exemplary works, should join those to be promoted in this cycle. I believe that they deserve that promotion because they have excelled and they have gone beyond their call of duty,” the President said.
