On Thursday, 21st September, the Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang warned school Headteachers over imposing remedial classes, adding the programs are illegal.
According to Education PS, Belio Kipsang, some school head teachers continue to impose illegal levies on parents to pay teachers who conduct. He said that he has no idea why teachers need extra hours in the name of remedial teaching.
Kipsang added that the hours the ministry has prescribed for teaching were sufficient for imparting skills, competencies, and knowledge learners will apply in tackling examinations. Remedial teaching and the levies associated with it were a burden to parents.
“Extra levies had made us acquire a bad name under the name of remedial teaching,” he said. The Education PS was speaking during a meeting with field education officials and national government administration officers.
