Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has today hosted the Kakamega Satellite run at the Masinde Muliro University, Kakamega. The race was flagged off by Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa. The Kakamega run is the first of the three satellite runs created to increase participation across the country.

More than 700 runners participated in the 5km run. Since its inception, the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has been a beacon of hope, unity, and transformation. It has brought together more than 270,000 runners from all walks of life, all running for a common cause – to make a positive impact in our society.

Over the last 20 years, the race has raised over KES 672 million, a staggering sum that has been used to support numerous impactful initiatives through the Seeing is Believing initiative and more recently, Futuremakers.

“Our marathon is not just about running; it’s about making a real difference in the lives of those who need it the most. Standard Chartered Bank, in partnership with our sponsors, uses this event as a powerful vehicle to promote greater economic inclusion, especially for disadvantaged young people. We take pride in the fact that all the proceeds from this marathon are dedicated to our ‘Futuremakers’ initiative, which focuses on creating a brighter future for the youth of Kenya,” said Peter Gitau, Local Organising Committee  Chairman.

He went ahead to add, “We are grateful to the Kakamega County and running community for their support towards the marathon.”
