Kuza Awards Launched, Voting To Kick Off On April 22

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has officially launched the KUZA ICT Awards for 2024, giving Kenyans an opportunity to vote for their best broadcaster and content creator.

KUZA Awards were initiated by the Communications Authority about seven years ago to recognize excellence in the broadcasting subsector.

“The voting period will run from 22 April to 22th May 2024, after which a jury will retreat to assess the outcome and list of final winners,” said CA Director General David Mugonyi.

Mugonyi said there is need to support innovation and indigenous inventions for scalability and sustainability in the ICT sector adding that a collaborative approach instead of competition between the public and private sector was key to driving the growth of the industry.

The new category to recognize excellence and innovation will also honour licensees who excel in technological advancements and digital inclusivity.

The ICT sector has seen a surge in adoption, innovation, and investment with its growth rate outpacing other industries by up to 2.5 times. The annual award is expected to provide a platform for showcasing the latest innovations and creativity in embracing new technologies in the digital space.

“Over the last decade, it has evolved into an authoritative forum for the careful dissection of emerging issues, the thoughtful deconstruction of constraints and the clear articulation of the way forward for Kenya’s ICT sector,” said Mugonyi.

“Kuza means to ‘nurture’ which is exactly what we hope to achieve. It is our belief that recognizing exceptional performance and impact will spur excellence across the sector.” He added.

Voting for the nine categories will be open from 22 April to 22nd May 2024. They include the Broadcasting Award, Postal and Courier Award, Telecommunications Award, Green ICT Award and Cyber Security Excellence Award.

Others are the Child Online Protection and Safety Award, Women in Tech Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and People’s Choice Award.
