Jubilee Life Insurance Announces 4th Art Contest With A Ksh 3 Million Scholarship Prize

Jubilee Life Insurance has launched the 2024 Live Free Art Competition in Kisumu County today. This annual competition, which targets primary school pupils, reflects the company’s commitment to nurturing young talent and supporting education in the country.
Last year, over 10,000 participants from 300 schools in 19 counties joined the competition. This year, the Live Free Art Competition aims to attract 15,000 submissions from young artists in Grades 1 to 4 under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). The top ten winners will receive full high school scholarships worth KES 3 million.
The rise of the creative economy has become a significant global phenomenon, driving economic growth, job creation, and innovation. This sector, encompassing fields such as art, design, media, and entertainment, is increasingly recognized for its potential to contribute to sustainable development and cultural enrichment.
According to the 2023 Economic Survey, the creative sector in Kenya contributes 5% to the national GDP and about 25% of total wage employment. This data shows that investing in this sector will drive sustainable development and unlock further economic growth.
While speaking during the launch, Jubilee Life Insurance CEO Asman Mugambi noted that there is a growing appreciation and enthusiasm for art in major quarters. He also added that the annual Live Free Art Competition will go a long way in not only enriching personal development but also impacting the nation at large.
“We are now in the fourth year since we launched this competition. It has been a heartening experience discovering the incredible talent and creativity among our children. Jubilee Life Insurance will continue to champion this initiative as we rally pupils, parents, teachers, and all other education stakeholders to support and encourage these budding artists,” said Asman.
Participating pupils must submit original artworks in various mediums including painting, drawing, collage, or mixed media. The competition allows them to use watercolors, colored pencils, crayons, charcoal, ink, or any other locally available materials.
On his part, Ministry of Education Regional Education Director – Nyanza Lawrence Karuntimi highlighted that the ministry places significant emphasis on nurturing creativity among learners. CBC integrates these elements as essential components, recognizing that the arts field is pivotal in developing well-rounded individuals.
“We are excited to see corporates such as Jubilee Life allocate their resources to drive awareness on the role of art in promoting self-sufficiency. This initiative not only celebrates artistic prowess but also aligns with the Ministry’s vision of fostering an integrated approach to learning that nurtures the diverse talents of our students,” Mr. Sifuna said.
Victoria Primary School Headteacher Edward Omala said, “We are excited to participate in this year’s participation. We commend Jubilee Life Insurance for creating such a significant opportunity for pupils across Kenya to participate and excel in this inspiring competition.”
All artworks should be submitted by hand delivery or couriered to Jubilee Insurance’s head office no later than 20th September 2024. The awards ceremony will be held on 15th November 2024.
