Kenyans To Get New IDs Within 10 Days, Says The Government

BY Getrude Mathayo · September 17, 2024 12:09 pm

Kenyans applying for new National Identification Cards (ID) will receive the document within 10 days starting October 2024 according to Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok.

PS Julius Bitok made the announcement on Monday, September 16 while he in Katoloni, Machakos County, during this year’s World ID Day celebrations. Bitok explained that that by October next month, live capture equipment will have been deployed in Huduma Centers and National Registration Bureau (NRB) offices across the country.

“It will now take you not more than ten working days from the date of application down from at least 21 days to get your ID. We want Kenyans to acquire their Ids as quickly and conveniently as possible.” Bitok said in Machakos County during this year’s World ID celebrations

“The Machakos event was marked with on-spot registration for Ids, birth certificates, certificates of good conduct among other documents. The choice of Machakos as a venue for this year’s festivities was informed by a high number of eligible ID registration applicants with at least 32,000 youth deemed due for registration,” he stated.

According to Bitok, in order to facilitate access to passports and other travel papers, the government is considering establishing a new Immigration office in the county.

In attendance, Machakos Member of Parliament Caleb Mule was also present. Mule urged the government to open more NRB and Civil Registration Services (CRS) offices to reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for services.

“Our citizens are travelling long distances in search of identity documents. For instance, residents of Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Kitui counties currently face the burden of traveling to Embu or Nairobi for passports, which is costly and time-consuming,” Mule stated.
