Spotify Launches Playlist Feature For Offline Listening

Spotify has launched a new feature for premium users to allow playback even when your internet connection is disrupted.

Offline Backup will automatically generate a playlist made up of recently streamed and listed content. It is expected the new addition will evolve, curating your list in response to your most frequent audio choices.

The new feature has similarities to Spotify’s Offline Mode, but what makes it different is that it does not require any manual downloads. The platform will also add tracks that are already cached on your device, to Offline Backup.

Plane or train journeys can lead to unwanted dips in WiFi connection, and in those situations, this appears to be a welcome enhancement.

“When the need for music is high and you find yourself offline, Spotify has you covered. Beginning today, we’re launching Offline Backup, bringing Premium users globally another way to keep listening to music offline, no downloads required. Nearly half of our Premium listeners globally have used Spotify offline to listen to their favorite audio,” said Spotify in a statement.

The new feature will show on the home feed of the Spotify app, any time the device goes offline as long as you have enabled offline listening in settings. New users will need some time for the functionality to work properly, as you need to have listened to more than five songs.
