Kenyan Shilling Strengthens Against The US Dollar, Weakens Against The Pound

Exchange Rate Performance

The Kenyan shilling, which has remained relatively stable against the US Dollar, on Tuesday, strengthened by 0.04 percent to close at 129.28 (+0.01 percent year-to-date) against the US Dollar.

However, the local currency weakened against the British Pound by 0.17 percent to close at 163.05 (-0.48 percent year-to-date). The shilling also weakened against the Euro by 0.09 percent to close at 135.52 (-0.92 percent year-to-date).

Kenyan Stock Market

Total equity turnover decreased by 11.76 percent to close at USD 2.34 MN (KES 302.24 MN) compared to yesterday’s turnover of USD 2.65 MN (KES 342.38 MN).

NSE 20 eased by 0.03 percent to close at 2223.99 and NASI rose by 0.62 percent to close at 132.73 respectively.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 19.90 percent of total market purchases and 53.87 percent of total market sales.
