NCBA Bank has dedicated at least 12 million shillings under its NCBA Change the Story Initiative to empower more than 150 students and mentor 300 others. This was revealed during the cheque handover ceremony for beneficiaries at Kenya Railways Museum in Nairobi.

The 12 million shillings directed towards the empowerment of students in Kenya by NCBA are part of the 100 million shillings that the bank has committed to setting aside annually to empower communities across the country as a way of giving back.

“We believe in the power of education to shape the future, we also want to strengthen our mentorship initiatives to ensure that the students are well-rounded individuals who will be confident leaders in their communities. This is our rallying call as NCBA,” said John Gachora, NCBA Group MD.

“We’ve re-established our Boys Mentorship Programme with the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) to equip young men at Upper Hill Boys High School with the tools they need to overcome challenges and unlock their leadership potential,” he added.

The event brought together partners and stakeholders who share the NCBA dream of empowering communities and societies through education and taking care of our planet through initiatives such as planting trees.

“Education is the key to success and the foundation of great societies. Through today’s sponsorship, we’re opening doors to quality education and brighter opportunities for more young people,” said Gachora.

Speaking at the same event, NCBA Group Chairman, James Ndegwa, reiterated the bank’s commitment to not only being a banking powerhouse but an institution that is all around in providing not only financial solutions but solving societal challenges.

“I’m truly in awe of NCBA’s initiative to empower our youth. We’re not just giving back— we’re unlocking inclusive and diverse access to education for all,” he said. “Today, over 480 students are on the fast track to their dream careers thanks to our scholarships and mentorship programs. I am excited to see these life-changing opportunities unfold!”
