Take Advantage Of KRA’s Tax Amnesty – Kisumu Stakeholders Told

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has encouraged stakeholders in Kisumu County to take up the recently introduced tax amnesty.

Speaking during the engagement, KRA’s Regional Coordinator for Western Region Ms Patience Njau lauded the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) – Kisumu Chapter, the Kisumu County Government, and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK) – Kisumu County for their collaboration on compliance and revenue mobilization initiatives within the Region.

“With your support, the Region has experienced significant revenue growth of over 1.5 billion in average monthly collection in the last three months compared to a monthly average collection of 1.3 billion during the same period in the last financial year,’ said Ms Njau. In her view, stakeholders such as KNCCI, ICPAK, and audit firms have played a critical role in this growth.”

In his remarks, CPA CS Godfrey Dienya from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Kisumu County reiterated ICPAK’s commitment to collaborate with KRA to ensure outstanding issues such as refunds and ledger reconciliations are addressed.

The engagement in Kisumu County is part of a series of stakeholder forums implemented countrywide by KRA to create awareness and encourage taxpayers to take up the amnesty.

Kenya assented into law the Tax Procedures (Amendment) Bill, 2024 on 11th December 2024, and the bill became effective on 27 December 2024. The resulting Tax Procedures (Amendment) Act, 2024 extended the amnesty period from 31st December 2022 to 31st December 2023.

KRA encourages all taxpayers to take advantage of the extended tax amnesty program, which waives all penalties and interests for all periods up to 31st December 2023. The amnesty window will close on 30th June 2025.
