In what might be one of the greatest milestones in Kenya’s pension and savings sector, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has announced plans towards making sure that Kenyans who retire access their NSSF benefits within 24 hours.

Speaking during this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Safari Park Hotel, David Koross, the NSSF Managing Trustee, said that the Fund has already started piloting the possibility of paying benefits within 24 hours of being launched.

“At the moment, we are processing claims within seven to nine days, a huge improvement from what was being done before. At the same time, we are working towards making sure that members get their benefits within 24 hours,” said Mr. Koross.

He said NSSF has already started testing that possibility. “Our team is already trying it out, and so far, we have realized that it is possible. We want our members to be proud of being part of NSSF,” he added.

Mr. Koross called on Kenyans who are about to retire to start the process of accessing their benefits, assuring them that the Fund will ensure that they get access without delay. “We are working on the possibility of people getting their benefits as soon as they retire.”

To access NSSF benefits, one needs to follow the following steps

Step 1: Prepare Your Documents: To start the process, gather the necessary documents. These include: Retirement Letter: A formal letter indicating your retirement, Copy of National ID: Your identification to confirm your eligibility, and Bank Details: Information about the bank account where your funds will be deposited.

Step 2: Visit the Nearest NSSF Office or Huduma Centre: With your documents in hand, visit the nearest NSSF office or Huduma Centre. These centers are designed to serve you efficiently, ensuring you get the help you need without unnecessary delays.

Step 3: Application and Review: Submit your documents for review. The NSSF team will verify your information to ensure everything is in order. This step is crucial to prevent any errors that could delay your payment.

Step 4: Approval and Payment: Once your documents are reviewed and approved, the NSSF will process your payment. You can expect the funds to be transferred directly to your bank account within 15 working days.
