Applications Open For Kenyan Startups To Get 100,000 Euros In Funding

Kenyan startups with innovative, impact-driven solutions are invited to apply for Cohort 9 of the develoPPP Ventures program, which opens its application window on May 15, 2025. The initiative offers EUR 100,000 in non-dilutive funding, along with tailored technical support, to help startups grow sustainably and effectively.
The funding is provided for suitable investments in growth by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In Kenya, develoPPP Ventures is led by DEG Impulse with implementation support by VC4A and Viktoria Ventures, and supports innovative post-revenue startups with a positive social, economic, or environmental impact on development in the region.
“Since we began implementing the program, we’ve seen that startups need more than just capital, they need structure, guidance, and the right connections,” said Stephen Gugu, Founder of Viktoria Ventures. “That’s what develoPPP Ventures delivers: a blend of funding and hands-on support that helps high-potential founders scale effectively.”
To be eligible, startups must be legally registered and operational in Kenya. They must be revenue-generating, ready to scale, and able to show clear impact on development. In addition, applicants are required to secure matching funds from third-party investors to qualify for the program.
Wilfred Mworia, Technical Support Associate at Viktoria Ventures, emphasized the transformative potential of the programme. “Startups in this programme aren’t just growing—they’re transforming entire communities. From job creation to healthcare and climate resilience, the impact is real and measurable.”
That impact is already visible through current participants. Notable portfolio companies include:
Taimba: This Nairobi-based Agri-Tech startup operates a mobile-based platform that connects rural smallholder farmers directly to urban retailers, eliminating middlemen and reducing post-harvest losses. By offering fair prices and timely payments, Taimba has increased revenue by over 15% and provided urban vendors with affordable, fresh produce.
GenePlus Global: Specializing in livestock genetics and nutrition, GenePlus Global provides advanced breeding and animal health solutions to farmers across the East. Their Geneplus Easy Breed® service offers affordable artificial insemination and veterinary support, leading to up to 300% increases in milk production for dairy farmers.
Stima Mobility: This Nairobi-based e-mobility startup provides electric motorcycles and battery swap stations for moto-taxi riders in Riders save up to $500 annually on fuel maintenance by swapping batteries in under a minute at STIMA’s smart, IoT-enabled stations.
These startups exemplify the program’s commitment to supporting ventures that drive economic growth and social impact.
Since the inception of develoPPP Ventures, DEG Impulse has received over 2,000 applications, financed 82 startups, including 25 with follow-on funding, and catalyzed more than €40 million in additional investments. Applications for Cohort 9 opened on May 15 and will close on June 30, 2025. Interested startups are encouraged to visit the application portal and begin the process of joining a programme that is unlocking meaningful, measurable change in Kenya and beyond.
