Kenya Rugby Union Establishes Women’s Rugby Committee

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially launched a dedicated Women’s Rugby Committee, setting the stage for an ambitious drive to elevate the sport ahead of the 2025 season of women’s rugby.

The announcement comes as the Kenya Lionesses, the national women’s team, embark on an intensive 11-day training camp that began on May 12. Over 50 athletes are battling for a place in the squad heading to the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in Madagascar, where they will face top-tier opponents, including defending champions South Africa.

When asked about the committee’s purpose, Sasha Mutai, Chairman of the Kenya Rugby Union, affirmed:

“Leadership in rugby is about fostering inclusivity and ensuring that every player, coach, and administrator has the right platform to succeed. This committee reflects our commitment to the growth and sustainability of women’s rugby in Kenya.”

Women’s Rugby Committee, a strategic body designed to advance the growth, visibility, and governance of women’s rugby in Kenya. With a strong blend of experience from sports, corporate leadership, media, and advocacy, the committee signals a bold commitment to professionalism, inclusivity, and long-term development.
