Google reimagines Search with new Gemini 3.5 Flash and Antigravity integration

Google announced a massive transformation of its core Search experience, combining the foundational strength of a world-class search engine with next-generation autonomous AI capabilities. The milestone announcements mark the next chapter of Search, evolving the platform into an intelligent, proactive companion capable of handling deep, multi-step tasks on behalf of users.
The goal of Search has always been simple: to help people ask anything on their mind, from quick facts to the deep, complex, or hyper-specific questions that can be hard to articulate. To make this possible, Google has continued to reimagine what Search can do with AI, and the global momentum has been incredible. Just one year after its debut, AI Mode has surpassed one billion monthly users, with queries more than doubling every quarter since launch. As users discover how much more Search can deliver, engagement has soared to an all-time high, driving total last-quarter queries to record-breaking numbers.
Redesigning the Core Search Experience
To support this unprecedented scale and changing user curiosity, Google is rolling out fundamental upgrades to the Search infrastructure and user interface:
- Gemini 3.5 Flash as the New Default: Starting today, Google is upgrading Search globally with Gemini 3.5 Flash. Serving as the new default model in AI Mode for everyone worldwide, Gemini 3.5 Flash delivers sustained frontier performance optimized specifically for background agents and rapid execution.
- The AI-Reimagined Search Box: Marking the biggest upgrade to the Search box in over 25 years, the input field has been completely redesigned with AI. The new interface dynamically expands to give users ample space to describe exactly what they need. Moving far beyond traditional autocomplete, it uses AI-powered suggestions to help users formulate nuanced questions. It also supports seamless cross-modality inputs, allowing text, images, files, videos, or Chrome tabs to be used simultaneously. The new AI Search box begins rolling out today across all countries and languages where AI Mode is available.
- Seamless Conversational Flow: Continuing a search journey is now entirely frictionless. Users can easily ask a follow-up question right from an AI Overview on the search results page, flowing instantly into a conversational back and forth with AI Mode. Context is preserved throughout the interaction, continuously refining the relevance of supporting links and articles. This seamless experience is live today across both desktop and mobile devices worldwide.
Search agents
Google is entering the era of Search agents, empowering users to create, customize, and manage multiple dedicated AI agents to handle ongoing workflows directly within the platform.
Launching first for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer, these specialized agents operate in the background 24/7. They intelligently reason across the entire web, including blogs, news sites, and social posts—alongside real-time Google data feeds (such as finance, shopping, and sports) to monitor for changes related to a specific user request.
Instead of requiring manual repeat searches, the agent sends synthesized, actionable updates. For example, an apartment hunter can input their exact living requirements, and the agent will continuously scan the market, notifying them the moment a matching listing appears. Similarly, sports fans can task an agent to monitor and alert them the instant a favorite athlete drops a new sneaker collaboration.
Google is also expanding agentic booking capabilities in Search to a wide range of new tasks, including local experiences and services. Users can input specific, multi-layered criteria, such as finding a private karaoke room for six on a Friday night that serves food late, and Search will consolidate live pricing and availability with direct booking links. In addition, for categories like home repair, beauty, or pet care, users can ask Google to call businesses on their behalf. These capabilities will roll out to everyone in the U.S. this summer.
Google is also introducing new agentic capabilities to help users shop in Search. Read more on the Shopping blog.
Agentic coding in Search
Through the integration of Google Antigravity and the agentic coding capabilities of Gemini 3.5 Flash, Search can now build the ideal response in the exact format required, completely on the fly. Users can get custom generative UI, including visual tools and simulations, tailored precisely to their needs.
For complex conceptual queries, Search will design custom layouts in real-time, assembling distinct functional components like interactive visuals, tables, graphs, or astrophysics simulations. These Generative UI capabilities will be available to everyone in Search this summer, entirely free of charge.
For ongoing, long-horizon tasks like planning a wedding or managing a home move, Search goes a step further by coding custom, persistent dashboards. For instance, a user looking to establish a new wellness routine can ask Search to build a custom fitness tracker. Search will generate a personalized mini-app, tapping into real-time local reviews, live maps, and weather data to help the user track progress week after week. Users will be able to build these custom Antigravity mini-apps directly in Search in the coming months, starting first with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S.
Expanded Personal Intelligence in Search
For artificial intelligence to deliver maximum utility, it must understand individual user context alongside global information. Google announced it is expanding Personal Intelligence in AI Mode to users in nearly 200 countries and territories across 98 languages, with no subscription required.
This feature allows users to securely connect everyday apps like Gmail and Google Photos, with Google Calendar support arriving soon, to surface contextual, highly personalized search results. Built with privacy and control at its foundation, Personal Intelligence ensures users retain complete transparency; individuals choose exactly if and when their personal data apps are linked.
This represents the next chapter of Google Search: intelligent AI that puts the world’s information to work for users. People can now ask whatever’s on their mind, and Search can do more for users than ever before.
