KUCCPS Reveals Why Marketable Courses Were Removed From Application Portal

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has addressed concerns raised by students over the disappearance of several highly sought-after university and college courses from its online application portal

In a statement issued on Saturday, May 16, KUCCPS clarified that the missing programmes were automatically removed from the system after all available slots were filled during the first application phase, which officially closed on May 6.

According to the placement agency, the decision to remove the courses was aimed at preventing students from applying for programmes that no longer had available capacity, especially those that attracted overwhelming demand from applicants across the country.

Among the courses that have since disappeared from the portal are some of the most competitive programmes in Kenya’s higher education sector, including Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, and various Engineering courses.

These programmes traditionally attract thousands of applicants every year due to their strong job prospects and prestige.

KUCCPS explained that the limited number of training spaces available in universities and colleges could not accommodate the large number of students who applied for the programmes during the initial application period.

“Some degree programmes such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Engineering, among others, were filled in the first application due to high demand as compared to available spaces in the programmes. Hence, they have been removed from the portal,” KUCCPS stated.

The placement body further advised students who may have missed placement in the competitive courses to consider applying for alternative programmes that still have vacancies available in various institutions.

“We encourage students who applied for these programmes but missed them due to competition to apply for available programmes,” the agency added.

The clarification came after numerous students and parents took to social media to express frustration and confusion over the sudden disappearance of the courses during the ongoing revision exercise.

Many questioned whether the programmes had been withdrawn altogether or if there was a technical issue affecting the portal.
