BAKE Awards 2026 Winners Crowned

The Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) has officially announced the winners of the landmark 10th anniversary edition of the BAKE Awards. The announcement follows a star-studded Winners Gala hosted on Saturday, June 27, 2026, bringing together East Africa’s premier digital visionaries, media-tech leaders, and global corporate brands.
Anchored by the timely theme, “The Creator Economy: Turning Content into Capital,” this year’s awards underscored the massive evolution of the local digital space. Groundbreaking data compiled by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), Baraza Media Lab, PwC, and UNESCO estimates the country’s digital content ecosystem at an unprecedented Ksh 1.27 trillion (USD 9.8 billion)—solidifying content creation as a core driver of youth employment, corporate strategy, and global economic growth.
Before the public cast millions of historic ballots to decide the final winners, submissions underwent a strict internal screening process. A rigorous five-week vetting phase ensured every platform met professional standards of ethics, consistency, and digital innovation.
Per long-standing BAKE regulations, single entries were sufficient to qualify, making content quality the ultimate currency rather than submission volume. From there, an elite independent panel of expert judges debated and evaluated the entries to nominate the best 5 in each category across 22 diverse verticals:
- Martin Mburu – Author and academic focused on literary quality.
- Leo Mutisya – Expert in media policy and civic ethics.
- Ahmad Salim – Creative strategist specializing in audience connection.
- Rayhab Gachango – Managing Editor of Potentash and veteran of African storytelling.
- Vanencia Otieno – Advertising professional with a sharp eye for brand strategy.
The 2026 cycle showcased deep integration between corporate institutions and creative niches, focusing on long-term commercial sustainability and ecosystem formalization:
- Absa Bank Kenya: Anchor Partner and Sponsor of the Business Creator category.
- Visa Kenya: Sponsor of the Lifestyle Creator and Technology Creator categories.
- Baraza Media Lab: Core Ecosystem Partner and Sponsor of the Social Issues & Active Citizenship Creator category.
- SemaBOX Africa: Sponsor of the Audio Creator and Video Creator categories.
- Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC): Sponsor of the Environmental Creator category.
- Equator Outfitters: Sponsor of the Fashion and Style Creator category.
- AM Communications: Strategic PR Partner and Sponsor of the Corporate Creator category.
“Behind every viral post, every insightful blog, and every meaningful conversation is a creator shaping how Kenya sees itself. At Absa, we believe creators are not just producing content—they are entrepreneurs, storytellers, and changemakers building our future. Through partnerships like this, we remain committed to empowering young creatives with opportunities that turn talent into sustainable impact and long-term capital.” — Caroline Wairugu, Senior Communications Manager, Absa Bank Kenya
“At Visa, we believe the digital economy represents one of the continent’s most dynamic economic forces, transforming creativity into sustainable livelihoods and reshaping how value moves. As BAKE marks ten years of championing Kenya’s online community, we are proud to be working with them to help creators build, grow, and monetize their craft through secure, seamless digital payment solutions that connect them to audiences and opportunities both locally and across borders. Creators are at the heart of the new digital economy, and by equipping them with the tools to get paid reliably, we are investing in a generation of entrepreneurs who will define the future of commerce in Kenya and beyond.” — John Njoroge, Visa Country Manager for Kenya
“Celebrating the 10th edition of the BAKE Awards is a proud milestone for the Bloggers Association of Kenya and the entire creator ecosystem. Over the past decade, content creators have transformed digital platforms into powerful spaces for innovation, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement. In a country still battling youth unemployment, the creator economy has become a vital source of sustainable income, businesses, and economic contribution for thousands of young Kenyans. This year’s awards were especially meaningful as Simply Apondi was crowned both Creator of the Year and Best County Creator—a powerful symbol of our vision to nurture digital talent in every corner of Kenya, not just the major cities. Creativity knows no geographical boundaries. As we mark ten years, BAKE remains fully committed to championing creators, promoting digital excellence, and building a stronger, more inclusive creator economy for the future.” — Kennedy Kachwanya, BAKE Chairperson
In a historic double victory, lifestyle and regional content pioneer Simply Apondi took home both the County Creator trophy and the coveted grand prize of Creator of the Year.
