TSC Opens 34,016 Teacher Promotion Slots For 2026/2027
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is the body charged with managing Kenya’s teaching workforce, set up as an independent commission under Article 237(1) of the Constitution.
Its job covers everything from regulating and managing teachers to developing the profession in line with the country’s education goals and curriculum needs.
In what’s shaping up to be one of its biggest moves for the 2026/2027 financial year, the Commission has published its Appendix 2 advertisement, laying out a major round of career progression opportunities for teachers across the country.
Starting today, TSC has opened applications for 34,016 promotion vacancies, spanning multiple job grades and covering various tiers and specialized institutions.
The exercise is part of the Commission’s ongoing effort to address career stagnation among teachers, lift morale, and reward those who’ve put in the work.
By opening up clear routes for advancement, TSC says it wants to make sure that good teaching, strong school leadership, and specialized support roles all get properly recognized and compensated.
Teachers interested in applying have until Monday, 10th August 2026, to do so, but only through the TSC’s online portal. Once applications close, the Commission will carry out verification and shortlisting, with promotion interviews expected to follow in September 2026.
At its core, this exercise is about putting the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) into action, the framework that governs how teachers move up from the lower T-Scales toward senior executive and management positions.
Promotions will be decided based on merit, performance appraisal scores, how long a teacher has served, and evidence of leadership ability. TSC has been clear that this process is fully digital: applications must go through the online portal, and manual submissions will not be considered at all.
As the August 10 deadline approaches, attention quickly shifts toward the next critical phase of the recruitment lifecycle: the September 2026 promotion interviews.
This phase represents the defining moment for thousands of educators seeking to transition into higher administrative and academic tiers.
