Kenya is ranked second among 199 countries in the welcoming ranking, while the Kenya passport ranking places the country’s passport 120th globally with a Mobility Score of 75 and worldwide access of 37.9%. The figures come from Passport Reports, which prepares and publishes passport reports for 199 countries in 34 languages.

The mobility total is made up of 37 destinations available without a visa, 33 destinations accessible through visa on arrival or other facilitated entry arrangements in the report’s classification, and five destinations available through an electronic travel authorisation (eTA). A visa is required for 123 destinations, equal to 62.1% of the destinations covered by the report.

Inbound access and reciprocity

For foreign passport holders entering the country, Kenya visa requirements are measured in the inbound direction, separate from the outward mobility of Kenyan passport holders. In that inbound context, Kenya is placed 2nd out of 199 countries in the welcoming ranking.

The reciprocity section identifies 123 countries whose passport holders can enter Kenya visa-free, with electronic authorisation or on arrival, while Kenyan passport holders require a visa for travel to those countries. The report records no country in the reverse pattern, where a foreign passport would require a visa for Kenya while a Kenyan passport holder could enter that country visa-free, with eTA or on arrival.

Africa remains Kenya’s broadest regional reach

Within Africa, Kenyan passport holders have access to 71.7% of the destinations covered in the regional table. That includes 19 visa-free destinations, 16 available through visa on arrival or facilitated entry, and three through eTA, while 15 require a visa. Kenya ranks 10th among 54 African countries in the continental comparison and also 10th among the 54 African Union members listed in the report.

The strongest regional coverage shown in the report is the Caribbean at 81.3%, followed by Africa at 71.7%, Oceania at 57.1% and North America at 52.2%. Access is 28.0% in Asia, 16.7% in South America, 5.9% in the Middle East and 2.1% in Europe. The Gulf Countries and Central Asia groupings both show 0.0% access, with all six Gulf destinations and all five Central Asian destinations listed as requiring a visa.

Selected stays and contextual rankings

Among the visa-free entries in the report, Ethiopia carries a listed stay of 360 days, while Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica and Rwanda are listed at 180 days. Fiji and Vanuatu are listed at 120 days, and several African and Caribbean destinations carry 90-day stays. Among facilitated-entry destinations, Nepal is listed with 150 days and eVisa availability, while a number of destinations including India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Russia and Vietnam are marked as having eVisa options alongside their entry category.

In other contextual comparisons, Kenya ranks 1st among four countries grouped under Swahili as an official language and 43rd among 60 countries grouped under English. It ranks 40th among 56 Commonwealth countries, 67th among 132 G77 countries and 111th among 159 World Trade Organization members in the respective passport comparisons.

Passport Reports ranks passports first by Mobility Score, defined as the total number of destinations accessible visa-free, through visa on arrival or other facilitated entry arrangements placed in the same access category, and through eTA. When Mobility Scores are equal, the ranking compares the number of visa-free destinations first, then eTA destinations, then visa-on-arrival or equivalent facilitated-entry destinations; passports share the same rank when all four values are identical.
