NCBA Partners with Tatu City to Simplify Property Ownership as Nairobi Homeownership Stands at 7.7%

Following the launch of PropertyDuka, NCBA is accelerating its commitment to simplifying the property ownership journey through strategic partnerships such as Tatu City, giving prospective homeowners and investors a seamless pathway from property discovery and acquisition to financing and ownership. Through the Property Investment Tour, participants experienced firsthand how PropertyDuka connects customers to verified property opportunities while providing access to NCBA’s comprehensive property financing solutions.

The engagement comes against a backdrop of significant gaps in urban homeownership. According to the 2023/24 Kenya Housing Survey by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), only 7.7% of households in Nairobi City County own the homes they live in, while 88.8% pay rent or lease their homes. At the national level, urban homeownership stands at 22.8%, highlighting the opportunity to expand pathways that enable more Kenyans to transition from renting to homeownership.

The opportunity comes as Kenya’s residential property market continues to evolve, with the latest KNBS Residential Property Price Index showing that residential property prices increased by 4.8% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026. This underscores the importance of connecting prospective homeowners and investors with property opportunities, appropriate financing and expert guidance.

Through the Tatu City engagement, participants explored residential properties while learning how they can discover and acquire property through PropertyDuka, and access NCBA’s range of financing solutions and specialist support. The tour demonstrated how bringing property discovery, acquisition and financing closer together can make the ownership journey simpler and more accessible.

Speaking on the engagement, Dennis Njau, Group Director for Retail Banking at NCBA, said: “At NCBA, our ambition is to be a Daily Relevant Ally for our customers by providing the expertise, tools and partnerships they need to turn their ambitions into reality. This Property Investment Tour demonstrates how we are bringing together trusted property partners, innovative financing and Property Duka to make the journey from finding a property to securing the financing needed to own it more seamless.”

Participants engaged with Tatu City representatives and NCBA property finance specialists, exploring opportunities suited to different customer needs, including first-time homeowners, existing mortgage customers looking to refinance and customers considering switching their mortgage from another financial institution.

A key highlight was PropertyDuka, NCBA’s digital property ecosystem that enables customers to discover and acquire property opportunities. The platform brings property discovery closer to customers, while NCBA’s property finance specialists provide guidance on suitable financing options.

The tour showcased NCBA’s broad property financing offering, including Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC)-supported mortgage rates for qualifying properties below KES 15 million, as well as standard mortgage solutions for properties above KES 15 million. Customers can also access Easy Build loans, construction financing, plot purchase loans, buy-and-build solutions, joint mortgages and up to 105% mortgage financing, providing flexible pathways to acquire or develop property.

Beyond financing, NCBA provides additional support including access to in-house quantity surveyors for project guidance, home insurance solutions and partnership benefits with home improvement providers. Customers also benefit from flexible financing terms, including no penalties for lump-sum repayments and shorter turnaround times.

The Tatu City partnership reinforces NCBA’s commitment to building connected ecosystems that bring together property developers, customers, digital platforms and financial solutions. Through initiatives such as the Property Investment Tour, the Bank continues to strengthen its role as a trusted partner in the property ownership journey, supporting customers from discovering and acquiring property through to securing the financing needed to realise their homeownership or investment ambitions.

NCBA will continue to bring its property financing proposition closer to customers through strategic partnerships, expert guidance and digital innovation designed to make property ownership more accessible, attainable and convenient.
