Bamburi Cement Scoops Three Awards at Kenya Road Safety Excellence Awards 2026

Bamburi Cement Plc has won three first-place awards at the Automobile Association of Kenya (AA Kenya) Kenya Road Safety Excellence Awards 2026, recognising its efforts to improve driver welfare, promote responsible driving and develop innovative approaches to road safety.
The awards ceremony, held at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, was organised in partnership with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The awards recognise individuals, organisations and institutions demonstrating commitment, innovation, collaboration and measurable impact in improving road safety across Kenya.
Bamburi Cement secured first place in the Driver Safety and Wellness Award, the Road Safety Champion Award and the Road Safety Innovation Award, highlighting the company’s focus on protecting lives and promoting safer roads for all.
Commenting on the recognition, Bamburi Cement Plc Supply Chain Director, Mohamed Kassim, said the awards reflect the collective efforts of employees and transport partners in promoting a strong road safety culture.
“These awards are a testament to the hard work, dedication and vigilance of our employees and transport partners in protecting themselves and other road users. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we remain committed to strengthening our safety practices and ensuring that every journey is undertaken with the highest regard for human life,” said Kassim.
The Driver Safety and Wellness Award recognised Bamburi Cement’s driver safety and welfare systems, which include the Digital Driver Pass, In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS), a ban on night driving and audited defensive driving training. Together, these measures promote driver accountability, encourage safer driving practices and strengthen oversight of transport operations.
The company also emerged first in the Road Safety Champion Award for its transport safety management programme, which extends beyond its directly owned fleet to cover more than 1,000 drivers and over 25 transport partners. The programme promotes accountability and consistent safety standards across the transport network, supported by partnerships and measures aimed at reducing road incidents.
In the Road Safety Innovation Award category, Bamburi Cement secured first place for its Transporter Safety Maturity Audit Tool, a weighted scoring system that assesses transporters across five road safety pillars. The tool categorises transporters according to their safety maturity, providing a more comprehensive assessment than traditional pass-or-fail checklists. Sixteen transporters have been profiled using the tool, which has also been applied to rail operators.
The three awards underscore Bamburi Cement’s commitment to embedding road safety into its operations and extending responsible practices across its transport value chain. By combining driver training, monitoring, welfare measures and data-driven assessments, the company continues to promote safer journeys for employees, transport partners and other road users.
The Kenya Road Safety Excellence Awards celebrate individuals, organisations and institutions making a measurable difference in road safety across the country, recognising initiatives that contribute to safer roads and stronger communities.
