At Nyayo National Stadium, the excitement of Safari Sevens extended beyond the rugby pitch. Fans turned out in large numbers, filling the tournament with singing, dancing, and conversations that brought people together. Even after the final whistle, the celebrations continued, with electric performances at the after-party keeping the atmosphere alive.

For many supporters, Safari Sevens offered more than an opportunity to watch their favourite teams compete. It was a chance to meet friends, socialise and enjoy a weekend where rugby and entertainment came together. The energy around the tournament showed how a sporting event can become a shared experience, attracting people for different reasons but giving them something to celebrate together.

The action on the pitch, however, brought its own excitement. Kenya Shujaa defeated the Kenya Morans 24–5 in an all-Kenyan final to retain the men’s Safari Sevens title for the fifth consecutive time. The victory underlined Shujaa’s dominance in the competition, but the Morans’ run to the final was equally significant, demonstrating the depth of talent available in Kenyan rugby.

Kenya’s success extended to the women’s competition, where the Kenya Lionesses beat Uganda’s Lady Cranes 22–5 to retain their title. Winning both competitions gave the home crowd another reason to celebrate and highlighted the country’s strength in rugby sevens.

Rugby has the ability to bring together people who might not ordinarily share the same interests. At Safari Sevens, supporters could cheer for their teams, enjoy the entertainment and connect with others in an atmosphere built around sport.

For the younger generation, the spectacle could also serve as an introduction to rugby. Watching national players compete at a high level can inspire aspiring athletes to take up the sport. The challenge is ensuring that this inspiration is matched by opportunities to train, compete and develop their skills.

That responsibility falls partly on sports administrators, schools and local clubs. Investment in grassroots rugby, access to proper facilities and support for coaches are essential if Kenya is to maintain its success. The visibility of women’s rugby must also continue to grow so that more girls can see a future for themselves in the sport.

Safari Sevens has demonstrated that rugby can offer more than competition. It can create memorable experiences, encourage social connections and bring communities together. The large crowds, lively celebrations and performances surrounding the tournament are part of what makes the event special.

β€œIt has been good and it has been tough. It is a new experience, but I love every moment of it,” Marco Jones and Gel Squad 7s player said.

For now, the tournament has given fans plenty to remember. Its lasting success, however, will depend on whether the energy witnessed at Nyayo can inspire the next generation of players and supporters long after the celebrations are over.
