BY Getrude Mathayo · October 26, 2026 12:10 pm

Thousands of Nairobi residents will be without piped water for three days starting Monday night, after Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company announced an emergency shutdown to repair a damaged pipeline.

In a notice issued on Monday, October 26, the utility said the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) will take the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline offline from 11:59 pm on Monday until 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 29.

“The shutdown is necessary to allow emergency repair works of the pipeline,” the company said. It did not say what caused the damage or what exactly crews will be fixing.

The list is long; Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Westlands, Parklands, Lang’ata, Karen and Upper Hill all feature.

In Upper Hill, both Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital are on the list. Residents around Wilson Airport, Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi West and Madaraka will also feel the pinch, as will those in Karen and neighbouring areas. Customers served by Oloolaiser Water and Sanitation Company are included too.

In Parklands, the affected areas include Parklands Roads 1 to 5, Highridge, Suswa Road, Iregi Road, Kusi Lane and parts of Limuru Road.

Over in Westlands, the interruption will reach Westlands Road, Ring Road, Muthithi Road, Chiromo Lane, Ojijo Road, Mpaka Road and the stretch around Lower Waiyaki Way.

Parts of Ngara will also go dry, among them Park Road, City Park, Desai Road, Railway Quarters, Forest Road and Kipande Road, along with the areas around the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the US Embassy.

The notice names several more neighbourhoods: Lower Lantana Road, Sports Road, Westlands Avenue, Upper Brookside, Muguga Green, Brookside Gardens, sections of General Mathenge Road, Lower Kabete Lane and parts of Peponi Road.

Others on the list are Lower Kabarsiran, Kabarsiran Close, Manyani East and West, sections of James Gichuru Road, Waruku, Lower East Church Road, Lower Raphta Road and Upper Lantana Road.
