NTSA Issues Fresh Notice To Motorists Over Driving Licenses

Motorists with Smart Driving Licenses waiting for them are being asked to go and pick them up. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) put out a fresh reminder on Friday, October 16, telling applicants to head to the centre where they registered their biometrics.
“Visit the centre where you registered your biometrics to collect your Smart Driving License today. Remember to bring your original ID for verification,” the authority said.
The notice comes as NTSA keeps nudging motorists to check online for the status of their pending documents. It also took the chance to warn the public off brokers, who often hang around offering to handle licenses, logbooks and the new-generation number plates for a fee.
According to the authority, none of that is necessary. Its services are open to everyone directly, and applicants can follow their documents without paying anyone in between.
“Do not deal with brokers. We have made our processes completely transparent, giving you full control without any need for brokers or intermediaries,” NTSA said.
The usual pitch from these middlemen is speed. They claim they can fast-track license applications and renewals, line up driving tests, push through vehicle ownership transfers or get you past the queues. The risks are real, though. Motorists who go this route can lose money to fraud, end up with fake documents or have their personal details misused.
Instead, NTSA wants people to use its online portal to find out whether their documents and plates are ready. A driving licence can be searched with a national ID number, while logbooks and reflective number plates can be checked using the vehicle or motorcycle registration number. The check is free, and there’s no need to create an account.
The portal also shows exactly which collection centre a document is waiting at, which should save applicants from making trips to NTSA offices for nothing.
Those facing delays or other problems can report them through the same portal. NTSA says updates on resolved complaints will be sent to the email address provided when the complaint was filed.
