Swissport Kenya and NCBA Partner To Grow 10,000 Trees in Kiambu Forest Restoration Drive

Swissport Kenya and NCBA have partnered to support Kenya’s reforestation and climate action agenda through a 10,000-tree growing initiative at Uplands Forest Station in Kiambu County. The exercise brought together employees, partners, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and local communities in a collective effort to restore forest cover and contribute to a more sustainable future.
The initiative forms part of Swissport Kenya’s Green Skies Kenya program and is supported by NCBA through the donation of 10,000 tree seedlings. An initial 5,000 seedlings were planted during the exercise, with the remaining seedlings set to be planted progressively over the coming months to extend the initiative’s environmental impact and support long-term forest restoration efforts.
The partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and advancing Kenya’s climate action goals. By bringing together private sector organisations, environmental stakeholders and local communities, the initiative seeks to create meaningful and lasting environmental impact while fostering a shared responsibility for protecting natural ecosystems.
Racheal Ndegwa, CEO, Swissport Kenya, said:
“At Swissport, we believe that being a responsible business means contributing positively to the communities and environments in which we operate. Through Green Skies Kenya, we are turning this commitment into tangible action by supporting forest conservation while bringing our colleagues and partners together around a shared purpose. We are grateful to NCBA, the Kenya Forest Service and everyone who contributed to making this initiative a success.”
The tree-growing initiative aligns with NCBA’s broader sustainability agenda through its Change The Story platform, which aims to support the growth of 10 million trees by 2030. To date, the bank has planted more than 2 million trees through partnerships with government agencies, communities and private-sector organisations, translating its sustainability ambitions into tangible environmental outcomes.
Ann Nderi, Head of Group Sustainability, NCBA, noted that the partnership with Swissport Kenya is critical because environmental challenges cannot be addressed by one organisation acting alone.
“At NCBA, we believe meaningful sustainability requires partnerships and long-term action. Our contribution of 10,000 tree seedlings reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and our ambition to support Kenya’s forest restoration efforts. Through our Change The Story sustainability platform, we remain focused on creating lasting impact by supporting tree-growing initiatives that benefit both communities and future generations. For us, sustainability is not a one-day activity but a continuous commitment to nurturing and protecting the environment for generations to come.”
The partnership also reinforces the role businesses can play in supporting environmental stewardship while creating opportunities for employees, partners and communities to participate directly in conservation efforts. Both organisations remain committed to driving initiatives that deliver positive environmental impact and contribute to a greener and more sustainable Kenya.
As Kenya marks Mazingira Day, the entities encouraged employees, customers, partners, communities and other organisations to embrace tree growing and environmental conservation as part of their daily actions. They also called for long-term attention to practices such as caring for trees and green spaces, reducing waste and making more sustainable choices.
