Safaricom Launches Sustainability Report 2015

Safaricom Limited has launched its 4th annual sustainability report in an event that took place at the Michael Joseph Center on 14th October this year.

The purpose of the report is to consider the most material economic, environmental and social impacts as well as opportunities of Safaricom’s business and to explore the main ways in which the company’s technological footprint is contributing to transforming lives and sustainable living throughout Kenya.

Safaricom, in release of this report has also achieved in its target of reducing the cost of energy consumption by 10 percent during the year and that is, the consumption energy per network site as well as facility building.

The total energy consumption figures for Safaricom primary energy resources such as electricity, diesel and water may increase with the increase in the expansion in network size and sophistication but the company is using the energy efficiently and steadily to reduce wastage.

All these efforts are tailored towards helping the globe to deal with the issue of climate change. Among those who attended the launch were Dr. Ali Mohamed – Senior Advisor to the Presidency on Climate Change, Pauline Vaughan – Director of Operations, M-KOPA Solar, Wanjira Mathai – Chair, Green Belt Movement, Project Leader of Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies, Bob Collymore- CEO, Safaricom and Nicholas Nganga- Chairman, Safaricom
