Kenya Airways Delivers One of the Four Aircraft to Oklahoma

The ailing Kenya Airways which was once referred to as the Pride of Africa during its maiden days decided to sell off four of its aircraft in order to get some cash to inject back into the business.

The airline has already delivered one of the four aircraft to a United State based airline and now awaiting the payments that the airline direly needs. Tribulations at Kenya Airways begun the moment the airline made losses amounting to more than 20 billion shillings being the first government corporation to register such a big loss.

Many quarters have blamed the management of Kenya Airways of hiking prices for tickets as compared to their competitors like Ethiopian Airline, something that has seen, according to observers customers move to using other affordable airlines.

The airline was also blamed for purchasing more expensive fleet that was not bringing in the much needed cash and hence the need to sell off some of them and four of them were earmarked for sell off.

The first plane, Boeing 777-200 ER has already been flown to an Oklahoma-based Omni Air International that had entered an agreement with Kenya Airways to purchase two of its aircrafts.

There has been hope and speculations that the government would bail the ailing Kenya Airways out but that is yet to come by since the company registered 25.7 billion loss after tax in March 2015.

There has been also efforts to restructure the management at the helm of Kenya Airways but that is yet to bore fruits.

Kenya Airways is now facing competition from other airlines like the Ethiopian Airline that has won the hearts of many because of the affordable prices as well as timeliness.

There are also call for the government to privatize Kenya Airways so as to improve accountability and competition.
