Average Sugar Prices Increases by Sh.4.97 in October -KNBS

The average price of 1 kilogram of sugar in Kenya increased by 4.97 shillings in the month of October, where it stood at 125.71 shillings as compared to the month of September where the average price was 120.74 shillings. Last year.

In 2015, the average price of the same 1 kilogram of sugar in the month of October was 110.81 shillings according to the consumer indices and inflation report released by the Kenya Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) for the month of October. This means that in October 2016, the prices have increased by 14.9 shillings.

According to the report, the overall inflation rate stood at 6.47 percent in October 2016, further noting that between September and October 2016, Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks’ Index increased by 0.96 percent which was attributed to increase in prices of several food items which outweighed the decreases. The year on year food inflation stood at 11.03 per cent in October 2016.

A 1 kilogram packet of loose maize flour on the other hand had an average of 49.01 in October as compared to 48.18 shillings in September. A 2 kilogram packet of sifted maize flour on the other hand went averagely at 114.4 shillings in October while in September, the same quantity was being sold at an average price of 113.79 shillings.
