The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has announced that it will buy maize through the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) only from registered farmers.

“The Ministry has already developed a farmer’s register which is available at all County Agricultural Officers where farmers can check and verify their registration details,” read the notice through the Public Communications Office to qualify to sell their maize to NCPB in the current season.

Registered farmers will sell a 90kg bag of maize at a price of KSh3, 000 up from the previous KSh2, 300.

Last month the Deputy President William Ruto said that the new prices will be subject to a progressive review each year.

However, a spot check on commodity prices showed that dry maize prices have remained unchanged in the season.
