Raila Changes Twitter Status, Tells Followers ‘We Have Arrived in Canaan’

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga changed his status on Twitter to ‘President of Republic of Kenya’ after he was sworn-in as the People’s president at Uhuru Park, Nairobi Tuesday.

“…We have arrived in Canaan; thank you for staying the course with us,” he tweeted to his followers.


The opposition leader has a following of 1,659,169 on Twitter compared to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 2,920,686 followers.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is Africa’s most followed leader with 2,097,751 million followers, closely followed by Rwanda’s Paul Kagame and Nigeria’s Muhammed Buhari on Twitter according to Twiplomacy Study 2017.

This is the second time he takes the slot.

Twiplomacy is the leading global study of world leaders on social media, conducted by leading global public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller.

On Tuesday, the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) shut television and radio stations.
